Fathers Day Service
15th June 2008
Having celebrated all the mums in the house on Mothers Day, we were determined not to forget the fathers on their special day. So on 15th June, Fathers Day, Pastors Jerome and Ruth set aside the two morning services to pay tribute to all the dads.
Having asked all the fathers to stand, Pastor Jerome invited the children out to collect a bar of chocolate and go and present it to their dad. Some of the children were clearly reluctant to part with their offerings!
Then it was time to honour specially nominated men in four categories: granddads, young fathers, established fathers and a new category for young men who, though not yet fathers, still play a significant role in mentoring young people and could almost be seen as ‘surrogate fathers’. Each gentleman was given a beautifully wrapped gift box containing vouchers, a CD box set and a book as Pastors honoured them publicly before proud friends and family members and the rest of the church.
Pastor Jerome rounded each service off with a special message entitled ‘The Fatherhood Principle’ and at the end of the morning, those who recognised the effects of fatherlessness in their lives were invited forward to receive anointed ministry and prayer.
The occasion was a real celebration for the whole church. As one member put it, “Days like these really show what a wonderful sense of family there is at El-Shaddai.”
